This
project is the second phase of a large community developement where the
warehouse conversion became the catalyst to transform a derelict
industrial district into a residential neighbourhood. The
concrete frame and floors originally built to withstand the immense
weight of the liquor vats has permitted the addition of four levels
onto the roof of the existing distillery. A rooftop garden and
observation lounge have been added providing outdoor amenity space for
a building whose footprint occupies the entire site, while retail uses
animate the street level. The facade articulation borrows from
the interior vocabulary of the distillery. Glazing, column and
capitals are reinterpreted on the facade in a composition echoing the
original structure of this grand "industrial temple".
